This Holiday Season, Volunteer as a Family, and Grow as a Family!

The holiday season is a wonderful time for many families. Bonding over hot chocolate, singing carols, and wrapping gifts is a great way for the family to spend time together. Unfortunately, for many families and individuals in Denver, the holiday season is a difficult time. This year, why not spend some time as a family volunteering your time to help those in need in your community.

The benefits of volunteering are astounding. When you volunteer with your children you are setting a good example for them of the importance of giving back and showing compassion.  Doing good in your community can increase social and relationship skills and boost confidence. Spending time helping others can give you and your family a sense of accomplishment and pride.  Volunteering can also teach job and life skills, and provide a wider perspective of what is happening in the world around you.

Before you make the commitment to volunteer make sure that you do your research.  By finding an organization or cause that you are passionate about, you will likely gain a much bigger personal reward. Consider the skills that you and your family already possess, and try to find a way to use these skills to give back. Also, make sure that you don’t over-commit your schedule so that you and your family do not get burned out. Volunteering should be an activity that you enjoy and that you feel good about!
